With Asics’ Gel-1130 and Gel-Kayano 14 silhouettes continuing to be prevailing trends, the Japanese sportswear brand is giving each model a fresh new look this month, but not everyone will be able to wear them.
Both the Gel-1130 and Gel-Kayano 14 from the brand’s upcoming pack are women’s exclusive colorways. Each look employs a tie-dye-like color fade throughout their uppers, using the shoe’s mesh bases as canvases for a mix of colors. Pastel-leaning shades are used on both sneakers, while silver overlays keep the styles rooted in their 2000s-era aesthetic.
Of the duo, the Gel-1130 is the more vivid with a “Baby Lavender/Pure Silver” colorway which also blends in shades of bright pink and light blue. Meanwhile, the slightly more subdued Gel-Kayano 14 uses a “Baked Pink/Cream” combination which, as its name suggests, features a faded, salmon-esque shade of pink that transitions to blue at the rear.

Both the Asics Gel-1130 and Gel-Kayano 14 were originally released in 2008. The Gel-1130 was inspired by the Gel-Kayano 14, offering a budget-friendly alternative to the more premium running shoe. Today, both models are among Asics’ most on-trend designs and some of the more popular mesh-based 2000s-era running shoes across all brands.
To date, the Gel-Kayano 14 has seen coveted collaborations with the likes of JJJJound and a three-way project between Asics, Kith and Marvel. As for the Gel-1130, collaborations with HAL Studios and Kith x Marvel have drawn attention, but it’s the sneaker’s in-line general release colorways that are most omnipresent in street style.
Other recent Asics launches of note include a Gel-Kayano 20 collaboration with Boston-based boutique Bodega, a “Naruto: Shippuden” x Gel-NYC and designer Cecilie Bahnsen’s take on the Gel-Terrain.
This Asics women’s pack’s Gel-Kayano 14 is priced at $160, while the Gel-1130 is $110. Both pairs will be released on Sept. 26 exclusively in women’s sizing from asics.com and select retailers.
